Reflections on the Lost School Road

When children graduate or parents finish the long journey of raising them, the memory of the school road often fades. What once was a path of laughter and learning becomes just another street—dominated by cars, status, and speed.

Our public education system, shaped by colonial powers, Western influence, and industrialization, has long prioritized obedience and productivity over imagination and rights. In such a system, children’s walking rights were never truly considered. Roads belonged to vehicles, and vehicles symbolized social class—much like noble carriages of the past.

This is why in modern cities the concept of a safe school road has nearly vanished. Yet even today, there are efforts to restore it—not through miracles or force, but through gentle reminders that encourage drivers to slow down and respect young pedestrians.

History always advances through small, imperfect attempts. Even if such efforts seem out of place in their time, they matter. Because someone must try. And when we try, perhaps one day, our descendants will smile at us with gratitude.

학교를 졸업하거나

아이들 키움의 여정이 끝나면 

대부분의 어른들은 잊는다. 과정에 추억만 징검다리 처럼 남는다.

그래서 우리아이가 없는 공간은 그냥 길이 된다.

내가 중심이 되고 차량이 움직이는 길이다.

그래서 통학로라는 개념은 살아진다.

인지상정이다.

우리의 교육은 공립교육이다.

일제가 열고 서양세력이 다지고

자본주의가 완성한 시스템이다.

공립교육은 말 그대로 말 잘듣고 시키는 일 잘하는 일꾼을 만드는 것이다.

생각보다는 명령에 잘 따르는 학생이 인재가 된다.

그래서 공장과 비슷하다.

보행권,아동권 이런것 예전엔 생각도 아니한 것이다.

그렇게 산업화가 중심이 되어 달려온 대한민국이다.

그러니 차가 길의 주인이 되고

차량의 고급화가 그 사람의 계급을 대변하는 이상한 풍토가 자리했다.

물론 옛날에도 좋은 가마 타고 많은 종들 몰고 다니면 귀족이었다.

변한것은 가마에서 바퀴달린 차로 바뀐것이다.

그러기에 통학로 이런것 도시에 없다.

그냥 길이고 길에 계급이 있었다.

피맛골이 괜히 생겨 났는가?

여하튼 지금이라도 잃어 버린 통학로 지킬수 있는 시도를 하게 됨을 다행으로 생각한다.

그냥 다행이다.

모세의 기적과 같이  홍해를 가를 그런것은 없다.

단지 일께워주고 공감해서 스스로 감속하게 유도하는 것이다.

총칼들고 위협할 수도 없다.

그래서도 아니된다.

그냥 시도이다.

역사의 발전은 시도에서 시작되었다.

그것이 그 시대에 적합하지 않음도 공통점이다.

그래도 무언가 누군가는 해야 한다.

그래야 우리 후손들에게 미소 질 수 있지 않겠는가 한다.
